Abstract

DEVELOPMENT TRENDS. The technology of fibre-reinforced composites is being adopted increasingly in aircraft construction. The fraction associated with the structural weight of even civilian aircraft will increase from 20 % today to about 50% in the future. Innovative materials and manufacturing methods are expected to provide not only weight savings, but also improved performance. Drastic cost reductions and better environmental compatibility, in particular, are specific objectives.
