Abstract

Isolates of Blumeriella jaapii, Gnomonia erythrostoma, Nectria galligena, Phytophthora cactorum, Phytophthora fragaria rubi and Venturia inaequalis were grown in Petri dishes on specific media. The fungal hyphae complexed strongly with externally added oligomeric proanthocyanidins but also with monomeric catechin. This was evidenced histochemically by staining with the selective flavanol reagent p-dimethyl-aminocinnamaldehyde (DMACA).
