Abstract

This paper presents the modelling and control algorithms comparison of a PHiL grid emulator which is based on a two level inverter with LC output filter. The grid emulator is controlled to emulate not only the stable state but also the typical transient of a utility grid. A 5kVA prototype PHiL emulator is implemented in our lab. By means of this grid emulator, the typical fault 0% voltage trip is emulated for the grid-connected equipment under test (EUT) which is represented by a RL load bank. In this work, both PI controller and linear quadratic optimal regulator (LQR) are applied, the comparative evaluation are made regarding their performance and implementation effort.
