Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach to cooperative traffic management that relies on building clusters based on vehicle-to-vehicle communication and distributed decision-making scheme. The major concern here is to increase the functionality of the vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems and, hence, of the traffic information system as a whole, by introducing new data processing models and knowledge-sharing between vehicles in the field and regional control centres. The feasibility of the Com2REACT concept was proven in field tests. Traffic simulations were performed in order to evaluate the effects of the Com2REACT system on road safety and traffic efficiency.
