Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between intelligence and personality traits with code comprehension performance. We conducted a large-scale experiment using undergraduates to examine the correlation between intelligence and personality traits, such as conscientiousness, and performance in answering comprehension questions on code snippets. The study found that while personality traits had little impact on code comprehension performance, certain intelligence facets, including fluid intelligence, visual perception, and cognitive speed, had significant positive effects on performance. Controlling for these factors in future studies is important and further research is needed to better understand the relationship between personality, intelligence and code comprehension.
