Abstract
The paper is dedicated to cartographic challenges in a society which is characterized by mobility, cloud computing and Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI). Starting from a relation analysis between the real world and its manifold digital worlds and between the official and private geodata suppliers, the author indicates the development of geosensor networks for the dynamic data acquisition. She stresses the growing significance of VGI and Open Source Platforms. Some representative research and development results about geodata enrichment, spatio-temporal modeling and adaptable map design are demonstrated. New research demands in the fields of map mashups, incremental map generation and geovisual analytics are identified.
