Abstract
In order to further investigate the role of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in bone marrow transplantation, graft vs. host disease, and graft rejection in an outbred model, canine donor recipient combinations with positive one way reactions in mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) were studied. Despite its known high toxicity in dogs, cyclophosphamide was used to prepare the marrow graft recipients because of its good immunosuppressive properties and its common use in human marrow grafts. Donor recipient combinations with one way nonstimulation in MLC represent an excellent model to study either host vs. graft or graft vs. host reactions with regard to the MHC in outbred species.
