Abstract

Turbo spur gears are designed in tailor-made form in a construction phase related to orders and produced on a one-off basis and possibly in small series. Short delivery periods on the one hand and a high constructional outlay in the design of gear housings led in the past to solutions for gears with cast housings which were not optimal. Serial gradations of standards prevented technically and economically optimum solutions for gears. The use of CAD and the compiling of variation programs now allow standardization via algorithms and tables. Hereby, the requirments both for comprehensive standardization and for optimum design of the product can be met by the higher flexibility of the standard. An indication is given of which new tasks and problems face a construction department when introducing this method of procedure and how they were solved. The necessity for using three-dimensional models in the construction of the housing and their use to generate different views and sections are presented.
