Abstract
In 2007 the first route of Santiago-Chile tour buses was installed. The arrival of this service raises important questions regarding the relationship between the city, tourism and representation. We note that a single perspective centered in a critique of tourist representation in the city and its history is not enough to understand the manifold relationships between these elements. Tour buses require a study of specific tourist settings, practices, codes, conventions and mechanisms that represent and define them. Additionally, these buses in their daily rounds create or promote routes, pathways, tourist guides, restaurants, bus stops, urban spaces, museums and taxi services. All of which are elements which transform the city into a tourist destination.
