Abstract
207 subjects from social occupations with an average age of 37 years were retrospective questioned on motives for occupational choice, emotions and attitudes when entering their job as well as occupational disappointments. The degree of burnout was measured. Structural analysis using LISREL showed that only "unrealistic aspirations" related with burnout. Enthusiasm, involvement, commitment, identification with the job, career expectations and other variables had no significance for burnout.
