Abstract

Laser coagulation was used for experimental hemostasis on the liver and spleen in, rabbits and pigs. The Neodym-Yag-Laser device was connected to a special transmission system as described by Nath et al. After coagulation a zone of cystic tissue necrosis and carbonisation could be observed at the surface, sealing hemorrhage from ruptured vessels in deeper layers. The method seems to be more suitable for hemostasis on the liver than on the spleen.
