Abstract

Maize seeds were germinated in an atmosphere of 16 O 2 / 18 O 2 . 2,4- Dihydroxy-7-methoxy-1,4-benzoxazine-3-one (DIMBOA) was isolated and analysed by 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Heavy isotope shifts of 13 C signals indicated that all four oxygen atoms bonded to carbon atoms of DIMBOA are derived from molecular oxygen.
