Abstract
A short while ago, the German conference of the ministries of education decided on the definition of uniform educational standards for the Laender of the Federal Republic. Educational standards always refer to school subjects and have to reflect the essential educational content of a subject. Thus, specialist didactics are attributed an important role in their development, operationalization, and implementation. It is by no means self-evident which contents are indispensable, how they are to find their way into instruction, and how they may be examined. Mathematics is one of the subjects which already show results of concrete work in this field; therefore, it is chosen as an example on the basis of which the discussion of edcuational standards unfolds.
