Abstract

Embedded real-time systems play an increasingly important role in many application areas. Due to raising requirements on embedded systems it became a challenge to integrate comprehensive functionalities while trying to design the system in a way to be flexible at run time. On basis of an agent oriented software engineering approach it is possible to develop flexible, adaptive software systems. However they lack the required determinism of real-time systems. Solving this conflict of goals requires a systematic analysis and definition of automation requirements on the application of agent systems for the development of flexible automation software for embedded real-time systems. Thereto, all relevant requirements have to be identified and considered.
