Abstract
The velocity of the Gepatschferner in the Oetzal Alps has been measured several times in the period 1953-1977. With 10 additional photogrammetric surveys of the glacier snout the changes of the altitude of the glacier surface could be determined. Results show velocity maxima of 69cm per day which have increased by up to 30% since 1958. Despite steady recession of the terminus since 1953, the height of the surface has increased considerably from 1971 to 1977, so that at least an interruption of the retreat if not a new advance of Austria's second largest glacier must be expected. -English summary
