Abstract
Hybrid power trains, especially parallel hybrids, can reduce fuel consumption. With the switch mode of the two drive units the partial load area of internal combustion engines with its high specific fuel consumption can be avoided, resulting in less fuel being used. To reach this goal the power of the second drive must be optimized depending on the fuel consumption characteristics of the internal combustion engine and the conversion efficiencies of the intermediate storage of energy.
