Abstract

Robot-guided optical scanning devices can be applied for digitalizing nearly all kind of free-form surfaces that require high-resolution sampling. Despite this enormous advantage the wider implementation of such systems in the Industry, especially in case of small lot size, is still far from being reached. This is partially due to the extensive amount of time and human effort required to manually program the robot paths for every new part using trialand-error approaches. Since the laser scanner trajectories have to satisfy several constraints such as view angle, field of view, depth of view, self-obstruction und collision avoidance, using tedious and time consuming manually teaching methods result in, over and under-scanning or missing some interesting filigree regions and subsequently lead to sub-optimal cycle times. Accordingly, the approach described in this paper aims at replacing the cumbersome and error-prone manual programming currently applied for robot assisted inspection systems with automatic planning software.
