Abstract
For the transmission of high torque with a ratio within i = 30 to 100, many applications require a compact, coaxial design. For this purpose multistage planetary gears are normally used. Due to the complex construction of multistage planetary gears a high number of parts are required, leading to high manufacturing costs. In contrast to that the duo-planetary-gear concept, which is based on a reduced coupled gear (Wolfrom planetary gear [I]), provides a two-stage planetary gear with a highly simplistic design and accordingly minimal number of parts. In the following text structure and characteristics of the duo-planetarygear are explained, using an automotive seat backrest adjustment as an example. Procedures to calculate and dimension the duo-planetary-gear are described.
