N2 - Allergens are relevant eliciting factors for atopic eczema flares. In addition to classical tests of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated hypersensitivity (intracutaneous or in vitro testing), the atopy patch test (APT), an epicutaneous patch test with allergens known to elicit IgE-mediated sensitizations, can be used for the identification of trigger factors. For aeroallergens, the APT gives the most specific results with regard to clinical history as compared to the classical methods.
