Abstract

Technical processesare increasingly reliant on digital computers not only for their normal functions, but also for safety-criticaltasks. As a result, dependable computer systems are needed. Currently available systems are too expensive for many applications. The ADES Architecture is presented as a possiblesolution that stresses the use of COTS (commercial of the shelf) components and simple design to achieve dependability at a low cost.
