Abstract
Extremely sensitive Josephson junctions detectors, mixers and parametric amplifiers can be realized in a wide frequency range. In the millimeter and submillimeter region Josephson junctions ensure higher sensitivities than other electronic components. Applications up to several THz are possible. In this paper an introduction into the physical principles of the Josephson effect is given. The electrical properties of Josephson junctions and the application of Josephson junctions in detectors, mixers and parametric amplifiers are treated.
