Abstract
Background: H1-antihistamines are widely used in the treatment of various allergic diseases. They are known as well tolerated drugs with only few side effects. Case report: We report a case of an 28 year old man with chronic urticaria, who experienced flares of urticarial reactions after intake of H1-antihistamines. Placebo-controlled oral provocation tests showed an hypersensitivity to levocetirizine and hydroxyzine. Conclusion: Our case report shows the need to be aware of the rare possibility of allergic reactions to H1-antihistamines, especially if allergic symptoms increase after treatment.
