Abstract

As in other virus infections the identification of IgM antibodies also improves the diagnostic possibilities in a hepatitis-B virus infection (HBV infection). Identification and titration of IgM antibodies against the HBV focus (anti-HBc-IgM) enable an etiological clarification in HBsAg negative acute and chronic hepatitis forms. The duration of anti-HBc-IgM persistence after acute hepatitis-B can perhaps serve as a prognostic indicator.
