Abstract

We show that for the driven and damped sine-Gordon chain the dispersion of a given particle grows as t2/3, rather than t1/2 as predicted by linearized fluctuation theory. We point out the connection to models for surface growth and explain why in some of these models no anomalous fluctuations have been found numerically.
