Abstract

This chapter presents selected approaches for solving the problems of anode shape prediction and cathode shape design in electrochemical machining (ECM). The main focus is laid upon strategies to solve the cathode shape design problem-the computation of the shape of the tool required to produce a workpiece with a desired shape. In this context, the chapter describes the principles of several analytical and numerical methods, including the complex variable method, correction factor method, and numerical optimization methods. A few practical examples are outlined with their solutions being sketched in the respective sections of the chapter.
