Abstract
Inadequate folate supply can lead to neural tube defects in neonates and is a possible risk factor for various diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, colon cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Analysis of this group of vitamins therefore necessitates specific and sensitive procedures, which can be used for both the reliable determination of the folate content in foods and to record its bioavailability, Clear recommendations on nutrition can only be made if both these parameters are known, The present article compares the advantages and disadvantages of the established methods of folate analysis with the new method of stable isotope dilution analysis (SIDA).
