Abstract
Design and implementation considerations for a low-cost software and hardware development environment for microcontroller-based applications are discussed. This development environment is centered around a IBM-PC compatible microcomputer, employing a plug-in board with the target microcontroller on it. The communication between the PC and the microcontroller is through a common shared memory and two alternative configurations for the plug-in board are presented.
