Abstract
An improved procedure of the dynamic stiffness method is proposed in this paper. In the procedure, a one-dimensional substructure can be reduced to an equivalent element. In this way, the dimension of the global matrix is reduced greatly. In addition, a beam-like structure may be modeled with arbitrarily selected degrees of freedom. The application of the method to model reduction, evaluations of modal parameters, calculation of forced responses and identification of dynamic forces are discussed.
