Abstract

Video-based driver assistance will increase safety in future automotive systems. MPEG-7 Visual Descriptors have been developed to describe the contents of complex scenes. We plan to use MPEG-7 descriptors, e.g. Region Shape, Edge Histogram, to distinguish between various road users, e.g. cars, trucks, bikes, pedestrians, animals. In this paper we present a scenario for driver assistance and an experimentation environment based on the MPEG-7 XM software model.
