Abstract

An equivalent circuit diagram for a frequency selective surface (FSS) consisting of hexagon ring elements is presented. It provides the designer with a profound physical understanding of the high frequency behaviour of the FSS. In addition to a semi-analytical approach with element value extraction from full wave simulations, an approximation formula is presented for a quick estimation of the element values. This makes it easier to apply filter theory and thus the optimization process can be accelerated.
