Abstract
An implicit method of characteristics (IMOC) is derived. IMOC was proven to be unconditionally stable even for the case of a non-linearized hyperbolic system with general boundary conditions. It is shown, that the application of the presented method to Saint-Venant equations allows the explicit determination of the slope of the characteristics without iteration. For the case of a special lateral in-(out-)-flow an analytical solution for the Saint-Venant equations is generated and compared with the numerical solution adopting IMOC. The Couran number used in the numerical example was greater than seven. (A)
