Abstract

The authors present a brief review of the main features of bone marrow transplantation including the indications, preconditions, operative technique, complications and a case history which illustrates the material. The aim of allogenic marrow transplantation is the regeneration of normal marrow function but experience with 281 patients receiving alloplastic marrow because of marrow aplasia, 127 died and of 153 patients with refractory acute leukemia 21 died. However, of 57 patients with acute leukemia who received a transplant in the remission phase about 60% survived.
