Abstract

A “diagonal relationship” between technetium(VII) and osmium(VIII) can be proposed based on the properties of the newly synthesized title compounds. Like the valence‐isoelectronic OsO₄, MeTcO₃ adds olefins to form metallacycles (→cis‐diols), whereas the formally analogous MeReO₃ epoxidates olefins in the presence of H₂O₂. This difference is presumably due to the oxidizing strength of Tc^VII being much greater than that of Re^VII.
