Abstract

The article discusses the active packaging, which is considered as one of the innovative concepts being developed as an answer to changing consumer desires and market trends. The headspace of the packaging contains a certain quantity of oxygen at the time of packaging. In active packaging this oxygen quantity is taken up by the absorbers. Active packaging controls and reacts to conditions inside the packaging in order to extend the shelf life of the product and/or improve its quality.
