Abstract

Protection of spillway surfaces against cavitation erosion by the introduction of air near the spillway floor through aeration devices is discussed. The occurrence of cavitation, mechanisms affecting air entrainment, aerator models and aerator supply system calculations are also reviewed. Details of aerator shapes, the inlet duct system and a proposed aerator design procedure are provided. (D.W.T.)
