Abstract
It is well known that the content of free and dissolved air has an influence on the inception of cavitation, as well as on its stages of development. While a small air content, in the form of so-called nuclei, governs incipient cavitation and its subsequent appearance, with all the secondary effects like noise and erosion, it has been demonstrated that relatively small amounts of air injection into the flow causes significant reductions in erosion and noise.
