Advanced planning for the design of a global production network for electrical components

Abstract

We develop a modeling approach based on mixed integer linear programming to support strategic decisions for the design of supply networks. We focus on the restructuring of existing networks and especially on the issue of production reallocations. The model is integrated in a prototypical implementation of an advanced planning system using commercial standard software and applied to a case study from the industry. The results show potential cost savings of a substantial size compared to the plan generated manually.
