Abstract

High tooling costs and a low degree of material utilization lead to high production costs for the manufacture of structural components in aerospace engineering made of the alloy Ti 6Al 4V. The REGULUS research project aims to develop a process chain that significantly improves the situation concerning these cost drivers. The arc-based additive manufacturing process is used to build a near-net-shape blank. The target geometry is then generated using milling strategies specially developed for machining under rapidly changing engagement conditions.
