Abstract

Partially filled centrifuges turn unstable in a wide range of rotational speed. This paper provides a compact low order mathematical model to determine the location and the range of these instability regions, allowing investigations in frequency domain as well as in time domain. The numerical results are verified by various experiments and several proposals for controlling the system are made. It is shown that the supplied control strategics lead to asymptotical stability for previously unstable configurations.
