Abstract

Young and sportive Athletes, aged between 15 and 20 years, have the highest risk of reinstability. Besides clinical examination, an extended radiological examination is important following primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Especially within the first two years, the risk of reinjury is very high. Indications for revision ACL surgery include re-rupture, persistent or increasing instability due to concomitant ligament instability being untreated, and technical or biological failure. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of failure causes is necessary. Besides clinical examination, an extended radiological examination is important. Furthermore, graft choice depends on already used grafts. Medical history and clinical examination are also helpful to find the right treatment strategy in revision cases. Essential for success following revision ACL reconstruction are well-informed patients and a controlled retu to play.
