Abstract

A team of researchers investigated the properties of a recombinant glucose/galactose dehydrogenase from the extreme thermoacidophile, Picrophilus torridus. The enzyme was obtained by cloning the P. torridus gene for a glucose dehydrogenase, expressing it in E. coli, and purifying and characterizing the recombinant enzyme (GdhA). The enzyme oxidized both glucose and galactose.
