Abstract

A rank filter with N inputs sorts the data by value and selects a datum with fixed index as output. This index is called the rank. The hardware of such a filter is realizable either as digital or analog circuit. In this paper a simple analog rank filter structure is proposed. A matrix-valued ODE with initial conditions performes the sorting. The state realization of this ODE contains integrators, adders and multipliers. The multiplication operations make the filter nonlinear. The structure is a regular array that is locally connected only.
