Abstract

From (chloromethyl)silane and trimethyl phosphine a phosphonium salt [(CH3)3P-CH2SiH3]Cl is obtained, which can be converted into the ylide (CH3)3 P = CHSiH3 upon transylidation with (CH3)3P = CH2. The silyl ylide is thermally unstable and looses hydrogen to give the title six-membered ring species.
