A semi-analytic theory of the self-similar laser oscillator

Abstract

A semi-analytic theory for the similariton laser is developed using the variational approach. A new trial pulse shape, continuously adjustable between pure Gaussian and pure parabolic, is introduced. Excellent agreement with numerical solutions is obtained.
