Abstract
Statistical analysis reveals, that traffic accidents are often due to the incorrect estimation of the tyre-road contact. Objective defining of road condition requires measurement of friction coefficient (Formula 1) while driving. A energy balance concerning forcing energy of the engine and losses of energy caused by driving resistance leads to Formula 4 describing the friction coefficient MU. Therefore, regarding this formula, measurements of torque (D), acceleration (b), speed (v) and slip (s) permit the continuous computation of the friction coefficient. Driving experiments were conducted with a specially equipped vehicle. Data calculation was carried out with an analog computer. The figures show the empirical relationship of torque (D) and slip (s) under two different conditions of tyre-road contact. The friction coefficient approximated by Formula 4 is compared with the friction coefficient obtained by braking experiments. (English abstract)
