Abstract

Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are hardware primitives that can generate reproducible responses based on intrinsic randomness inside the device. These responses can be used for cryptographic purposes like key generation or key storage. Since PUF outputs are noisy, error-correcting codes have to be used. In this work, we derive a channel model for RingOscillator Physical Unclonable Functions (ROPUFs) by deriving a response distribution. We use the gained soft information in order to propose a new soft-decision Helper Data Algorithm (HDA) that significantly improves previous results.
