Abstract

As a high-tech accessory material of lithium ion battery, binder has a great influence on the electrochemical performance of lithium ion batteries. A good binder can not only relieve the mechanical stress but also provide superior electrical conductivity inside the electrode, thus ensuring excellent cycle stability and outstanding rate performance of lithium ion batteries. In this chapter, we have summarized the research progress of anode and cathode binders of lithium ion battery during the past 20 years. So far, the binders reported in the literature involved polymers, natural extracts, conductive binders and self-healing binders. The unique research perspective in this chapter provide guide for the construction of new generation high-performance lithium battery binders.
