Abstract

In this article, the first part of the 3D copying process is examined. Two cone-beam computed tomography systems are compared regarding the creation of surface models of physical objects. The compared systems are an industrial micro computed tomography (CT) system., the Wenzel Desktop-CT exaCT XS and a medical C-arm., the Ziehm Vision RFD 3D. The objects used for the comparison are metric plastic bolts in sizes M2 to M20. The selectable accuracy of the systems is compared with the threads of the bolts. The comparison shows that the micro CT system is better suited to create detailed surface models., whereas the C-arm is better suited to create surface models of large objects or in a short time.
