Abstract

The potential of substituted 2′-hydroxychalcones 1 as new efficient UV-A-absorbers for sunscreens has been investigated. A three step synthesis starting from the corresponding phenyl acetates led to the desired products. Absorption maxima, extinction coefficients and photo stabilities were determined by UV measurements and photochemical decomposition studies.
