Abstract

The assessment of the ER-status requires surgical intervention. A non-invasive technique for simultaneous ER-detection in prime tumors and metastases is introduced with the use of the radiolabeled estrogen 16-alpha-I-123-Iodestradiol-17- in a study of 53 patients with suspected breast cancer. Although not yet available for routine use, this agent may provide information about the receptor density, heterogeneity or changes of ER-status during therapy.
